Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL:SWITCH filed June 19, 2021

NHTSA complaint #1752948 (ODI reference 11421460) concerns a 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS and was filed on June 19, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 11, 2021. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as exterior lighting:turn signal:switch, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HYUNDAI GENESIS cohort independently describe similar exterior lighting:turn signal:switch failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The multi function switch on the steering column has a short within its components. When driving at night with the headlights on and I activate the multi function switch to change lanes, the headlights flicker. This is the second multi function switch that is having the same symptoms, because I had the same problem years ago and the multi function switch was replaced under warranty. It is now exhibiting the same symptoms as before but is no longer under warranty.
