Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION filed February 4, 2021
NHTSA complaint #1724721 (ODI reference 11394591) concerns a 2019 DODGE CHALLENGER and was filed on February 4, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 30, 2020. The vehicle had 100 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train:manual transmission, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE CHALLENGER cohort independently describe similar power train:manual transmission failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
I HAVE A 2019 CHALLENGER R/T WITH THE 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT HAS A PROBLEM WHERE IT WILL POP OUT OF FIRST GEAR INTERMITTENTLY AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 7 TIMES IN THE 7 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR AND THEY HAVE FAILED TO FIX IT. I HAVE PROVIDED 2 VIDEOS ONE A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND ONE THAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK TO PROVE IT IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN ALMOST REAR ENDED MANY TIMES BECAUSE THE CAR WILL POP OUT OF GEAR FROM A STOP. IT IS DANGEROUS AND DODGE HAS FAILED TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO FIX MY VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLICATED IT WITH A DEALER EMPLOYEE IN THE CAR AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIP EMPLOYEES WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS I JUST NEED TO ?PULL IT OUT OF GEAR AND PUT IT BACK IN TO GEAR?. IT IS DANGEROUS AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MY MOTHER AND MYSELF WHILE DRIVING AND I DON?T WANT HER TO BE INJURED OR MYSELF TO BE INJURED BECAUSE MY CAR IS STOPPED AT A GREEN LIGHT. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND IT HAPPENS AT LEAST THREE TIMES
