Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:ELECTRIC:CONTROL MODULE filed June 24, 2020

NHTSA complaint #1671520 (ODI reference 11330469) concerns a 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS and was filed on June 24, 2020. The owner reports the failure occurred on November 2, 2019. The report was geocoded to Georgia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:electric:control module, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HYUNDAI GENESIS cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:electric:control module failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND COMING TO A STOP, THE BRAKES GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR AS IF IT'S GIVING OUT. I'VE READ A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THEIR BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT. THE REPAIR NEEDED WAS THE HYDRAULIC MODULE. BY READING THEIR COMPLAINTS, I'M HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS MY BRAKE HYDRAULIC MODULE THAT'S ABOUT TO GO OUT, CALL HYUNDAI TO REPORT IT BECAUSE THEY HAD A FEW CUSTOMERS IT HAPPENED TO AND THE REPAIR IS $3000. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR BUT I HAVE TO GO TO WORK AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER ONE. I REPORTED IT LAST YEAR TO HYUNDAI AND THERE WAS NO ACTION OR FOLLOW UP AS IF THEY DON'T CARE. *TR
