Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:ELECTRIC:CONTROL MODULE filed November 12, 2019

NHTSA complaint #1620197 (ODI reference 11279606) concerns a 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE and was filed on November 12, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 2, 2019. The vehicle had 109,008 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:electric:control module, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:electric:control module failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE. WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED AT RANDOM. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS, WHICH WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL JANUARY OF 2020. FUTURE HYUNDAI OF CONCORD (1051 BURNETT AVE, CONCORD, CA 94520, (866) 979-7218) STATED THAT DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS NEEDED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,008. *LN*JB*DT*JB
