NHTSA Complaint about ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) filed November 4, 2019

NHTSA complaint #1617924 (ODI reference 11277938) concerns a 2004 CADILLAC SRX and was filed on November 4, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on November 3, 2019. The vehicle had 162,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Nevada based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as electronic stability control (esc), one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CADILLAC SRX cohort independently describe similar electronic stability control (esc) failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

THE STABILITY SYSTEM ENGAGES AND DISENGAGES ON ITS OWN. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL FOURMS AND REPORTS AS TO PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE . HAPPENS AT LEAST 1 TIME A DAY BUT USUALLY SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (WHICH IS THE ONLY TIME IT PHYSICALLY ENGAGES IT) THE STABILITY SYSTEM WARNING LIKE COMES ON AND SAYS TO SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEM WILL ENGAGE ON IT'S OWN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR APPLYS THE BRAKES ON IT'S OWN AND THEY GET ALOT OF VIBRATIONS AND IT PUSHES THE CAR LEFT OR RIGHT FROM THE FRONT END , ALMOST GOT INTO A WRECK AND WOULD LOVE FOR A RECALL TO ME PUBLISHED FOR THIS BECAUSE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN .
