2005 HUMMER H2 — Complaint #1361308
Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE filed March 7, 2017
NHTSA complaint #1361308 (ODI reference 10959060) concerns a 2005 HUMMER H2 and was filed on March 7, 2017. The owner reports the failure occurred on March 2, 2017. The vehicle had 100,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to South Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as air bags:frontal:sensor/control module, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HUMMER H2 cohort independently describe similar air bags:frontal:sensor/control module failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2005 HUMMER H2 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
THE SDM (SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE) ON MY 2005 HUMMER H2 IS NOT WORKING AND IS CAUSING MY AIR BAGS TO NOT WORK, AND ALSO CAUSES OTHER MODULES TO NOT BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE AND CAUSE MY GAUGES AND OTHER ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES TO NOT OPERATE (WINDOWS, LOCKS, ETC.) MANY OTHER HUMMER H2 OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. A NEW SDM WOULD FIX THE ISSUE, BUT GM FOR SOME REASON HAS DISCONTINUED MANUFACTURING THIS MODULE. WHY WOULD GM STOP MAKING A SAFETY RELATED ITEM FOR VEHICLES THAT ARE ONLY AROULD 10 YEARS OLD WITH MANY STILL ON THE ROAD. SO, NOW WE MUST DRIVE IT WITH THE AIR BAGS MOST LIKELY NOT GOING TO DEPLOY IN A CRASH.
