The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same PONTIAC GRAND AM cohort independently describe similar exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

THIS QUESTION SHOULD BE "TELL US WHAT HAPPENS". MY DIRECTIONAL LEVERS AND LIGHTING TO SIGNAL RIGHT OR LEFT DOES NOT WORK MOST OF THE TIME. THE LIGHT GOES ON BUT IT DOESN'T BLINK AT ALL. I WOULD SAY THIS IS A PROBLEM 97% OF THE TIME. THIS MAY ALSO HAPPEN WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS. I UNDERSTAND UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER THAT SHE WAS A RECALL IN 2003, BUT MY CAR WAS NEVER RECALLED UNDER MY VIN NUMBER. THIS HAPPENS EITHER WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR WHEN IT IS STILL. IT HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS, AND HIGHWAYS AND EVEN IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE FLASHERS CLEANED AND THE FLASHER RELAY REPLACED BY MY MECHANIC.
