Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY filed September 20, 2015

NHTSA complaint #1220720 (ODI reference 10766218) concerns a 2006 MERCURY MILAN and was filed on September 20, 2015. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 20, 2015. The vehicle had 143,187 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Ohio based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment adaptive/mobility, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same MERCURY MILAN cohort independently describe similar equipment adaptive/mobility failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET. THE WRENCH LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON , CRUISE CONTROL TURNED OFF AND LOST POWER AND SPEED. I HAD TO PULL OFF INTO THE DITCH TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND DRIVE DOWN THE SHOULDER TO A REST STOP. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR FOR 5 MINUTES AND THE TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT RAN FINE. AFTER READING OTHER ISSUES LIKE MINE I'M THINKING IT MAY BE THE THROTTLE BODY OR TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS.
