NHTSA Complaint about VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS filed September 2, 2014

NHTSA complaint #1105122 (ODI reference 10630220) concerns a 2010 FORD ESCAPE and was filed on September 2, 2014. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 15, 2014. The vehicle had 68,811 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as visibility:power window devices and controls, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD ESCAPE cohort independently describe similar visibility:power window devices and controls failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

IN AUGUST I HAD GONE INTO MY OFFICE AND LOOKED OUT AND MY BACK WINDOW WAS DOWN..I THOUGHT I DIDN'T REMEMBER LOWERING IT. FOUND OUT IT HAD JUST DROPPED ON ITS OWN...NO NOISE FROM THE MOTOR, JUST DROPPED. AUGUST 31ST I PULLED UP WITH FRIENDS TO EAT AND WE GOT OUT AND I LOOKED BACK AND THE OTHER REAR WINDOW HAD FELL ALSO. SO NOW WITHIN 15 DAYS BOTH WINDOWS, BACK BEHIND DRIVERS SEAT AND THE ONE BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT WILL NOT GO BACK UP AND I AM BEING TOLD IT WILL BE OVER $500 TO REPAIR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THESE TWO WINDOWS COULD BECOME NON WORKING IN LESS THAN 15 DAYS APART. NO ONE AT FORD WILL HELP ME...I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU COULD GIVE ME. THANKS *TR
