Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY filed September 1, 2014

NHTSA complaint #1104537 (ODI reference 10629830) concerns a 2012 FORD FIESTA and was filed on September 1, 2014. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 30, 2014. The vehicle had 46,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Arizona based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment adaptive/mobility, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FIESTA cohort independently describe similar equipment adaptive/mobility failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

MY RIGHT REAR DOOR THAT IS HARDLY EVER USED WILL NOT CLOSE DUE TO THE LATCH. I WAS 200 MILES FROM HOME AND IT WAS LABOR DAY WEEKEND SO COULDN'T GET TO DEALERSHIP. HAD TO BUY A BUNGEE CORD TO SECURE THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND IT STILL OPENED SLIGHTLY GOING AROUND CURVES AND BACKSEAT ITEMS ALMOST FELL OUT. MY VEHICLE IS A LITTLE OVER 2 YEARS OLD BUT DUE TO MY JOB OF DRIVING FREQUENTLY (DRIVING CHILDREN) I AM WELL PAST THE 36K WARRANTY AND WILL HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THIS. SINCE I CAN'T AFFORD AT THE MOMENT THE BATTERY NEEDS TO BE DISCONNECTED SINCE THE LIGHTS STAY ON AND THE DOORS REMAIN UNLOCKED. THIS CLEARLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS. *TR
