NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:COOLING UNIT AND LINES filed October 31, 2013

NHTSA complaint #1019054 (ODI reference 10550388) concerns a 2012 JEEP WRANGLER and was filed on October 31, 2013. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 31, 2013. The vehicle had 31,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train:automatic transmission:cooling unit and lines, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same JEEP WRANGLER cohort independently describe similar power train:automatic transmission:cooling unit and lines failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I RESPONDED TO A SAFETY RECALL ( N29/NHTSA/ 13V-234 FOR A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER TUBE) RECEIVED IN SEPT. 2013. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE PART WAS NOT IN STOCK, BUT WOULD BE ORDERED FOR ME. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER I CALLED AGAIN, STILL NO PART. THE PARTS MAN INFORMED ME THAT THE PART WAS "BEING RATIONED" DUE TO PARTS SHORTAGE - AND THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED IN THE FUTURE. I ASKED IF I WAS "IN LINE" BY MY DATE OF CALL, HE SAID THAT I WAS. STILL NO CONTACT. I DO HAVE A MYSTERIOUS LEAK SHOWING UP ON THE GARAGE FLOOR - COULD IT BE THIS PROBLEM? MY JEEP IS A 2012 AND HAS SHOWN NO LEAKS BEFORE. *TR
