2008 TOYOTA CAMRY — Complaint #1558535

Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about UNKNOWN OR OTHER filed April 16, 2019

NHTSA complaint #1558535 (ODI reference 11196802) concerns a 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY and was filed on April 16, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 1, 2019. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as unknown or other, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same TOYOTA CAMRY cohort independently describe similar unknown or other failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

DASHBOARD IS BECOMING EXTREMELY STICKY AND SHINY. NOTHING WIPES IT OFF, AND ITS WORSE IN WARMER WEATHER. ITS SHININESS IS BECOMING DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING. I'M WORRIED ABOUT THIS SPREADING TO OTHER PARTS CONNECTED TO THE DASHBOARD, LIKE AC AND AIRBAGS. CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY WAS UP AND IT WAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FIRST OWNER OF THE VEHICLE TO GET IT FIXED. AS THE SECOND OWNER (BOUGHT IT USED), I WAS NEVER GIVEN ANY NOTICE OF COMPLETE COVERAGE OR REPAIRS. NO EMAILS OR LETTERS.
