NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES filed April 16, 2019
NHTSA complaint #1558445 (ODI reference 11196734) concerns a 2007 PONTIAC G6 and was filed on April 16, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 16, 2019. The vehicle had 35,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same PONTIAC G6 cohort independently describe similar service brakes failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2007 PONTIAC G6 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
THIS CAR HAD A RECALL FOR THE BRAKE LIGHTS RANDOMLY COMING ON AND OFF. I TOOK THE CAR IN MYSELF AND THEY LUBED UP THE CIRCUITS WITH DIELECTRIC GREASE. THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW WEEKS. I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS. THIS MORNING I WAS FOLLOWING MY WIFE AND KIDS AND THE BRAKES LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN SHE IS GOING AND THEY GO OFF WHEN SHE APPLIES THE BRAKE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME MY RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN FIXED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T CARE AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO LOOK ON YOUTUBE AND LEARN HOW TO GREASE THE ELECTRIC PLUG THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON. THIS IS NOT FAIR. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON THE CAR AND THEY SHOULD FIX IT.
