2011 DODGE AVENGER — Complaint #1558286
Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about UNKNOWN OR OTHER filed April 16, 2019
NHTSA complaint #1558286 (ODI reference 11196610) concerns a 2011 DODGE AVENGER and was filed on April 16, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 15, 2019. The vehicle had 65,700 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Florida based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as unknown or other, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: yes, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. A complaint that flags a crash, fire, or fatality is escalated on NHTSA's internal review queue and factors more heavily into any Preliminary Evaluation decision on this make and model. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE AVENGER cohort independently describe similar unknown or other failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2011 DODGE AVENGER shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
FOR THE 3RD OR 4TH TIME MY CAR HAS SUDDENLY LURCHED/JERKED FORWARD FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. THE FIRST TWO TIMES I WAS AT A RED LIGHT INTERSECTION AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY JERKED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING OR EXPLANATION. I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE AND FOUND SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER DODGE OWNERS. SOME MENTIONING THE THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR. I'M NOT A MECHANIC SO I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE AS TO WHAT IS OCCURRING. THIS LATEST OCCURRENCE CAUSED A MINOR SLOW SPEED 'BUMPER TAG' BUMP TO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME TO THE CAR AHEAD. MY DASHCAM CAPTURED THE INCIDENT. THE DASHCAM VIDEO IS *.MOV FORMAT BUT IS VERY CLEAR IN 1080P WITH SPEED, DATE, AND TIME STAMPED. IF YOU WOULD LIKE THAT I WOULD NEED TO EMAIL THAT OTHER THAN THIS WEBSITE PLATFORM. YOU WILL SEE THE BUMPER COLLISION OCCURRED AT 3MPH. NO MARKS WERE LEFT ON EITHER VEHICLES.
