NHTSA Complaint about UNKNOWN OR OTHER filed April 15, 2019
NHTSA complaint #1557969 (ODI reference 11197411) concerns a 2017 HONDA CR-V and was filed on April 15, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on December 15, 2018. The vehicle had 6,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Pennsylvania based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as unknown or other, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA CR-V cohort independently describe similar unknown or other failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2017 HONDA CR-V shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DASH DISPLAY. THE DISPLAY, INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN I START IT, SEE IMAGE 1, DOES NOT SHOW THE DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DISPLAY. THE CAR STARTS, THE MESSAGES ABOUT BRAKE IS ON, AND MITIGIATION BEING ON, SHOW UP, AND THEN THE CENTER OF DISPLAY BLACKS OUT. SOMETIMES, IT STAYS ON, AND THEN WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE, IT DISAPPEARS. SEE IMAGE 2, THAT IS AFTER I RESTARTED IT AFTER IT HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR A WHILE I HAVE FURTHER TESTED THIS. IF I START THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE OFF, THEN THE DISPLAY SEEMS TO COME UP (I START CAR, WITH BRAKE ON, IN GARAGE, DISPLSY DOES NOT COME UP, I RELEASE BRAKE, THEN SHUT DOWN THE CAR. I THEN RESTART IT, BRAKE IS STILL OFF, AND THEN THE GAS MILLEAGE DISPLAY COMES ON, THEN NOTIFICATION ABOUT ROAD MITIGATION; THEN ROAD MITIGATION DISAPPEARS, AND THE MILEAGE AND FUEL DISPLAY REMAINS ON) MY CONCERN IS WHETHER THIS REFLECTS OTHER SMOLDERING COMPUTER ISSUES THAT COULD AFFECT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. I HAVE RE
