NHTSA Complaint about UNKNOWN OR OTHER filed April 14, 2019
NHTSA complaint #1557832 (ODI reference 11196139) concerns a 2016 FORD MUSTANG and was filed on April 14, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 2, 2019. The report was geocoded to Virginia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as unknown or other, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD MUSTANG cohort independently describe similar unknown or other failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2016 FORD MUSTANG shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
FIRST THE AC WAS BLOWING HOT AIR. I HAD IT SERVICE LAST YEAR. THIS YEAR THE CAR WAS BLOWING COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAD THE BLENDOR REPLACED. 3 MONTHS LATER THE CAR AGAIN BEGAN TO BLOW WARM AIR I HAD IT CHECKED AND NOW 30 DAYS LATER THE CAR MAKES A WHINING NOISE WHEN THE AC OR DEFROST IS TURNED ON. THE NOISE BECOMES LOUDER AS YOU ACCELERATE. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE A LOT OF THESE COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THIS MODEL VEHICLE. THERE ARE ALSO A LOT OF YOUTUBE VIDEOS DESCRIBING THE SAME ISSUE SOME STARTING WITH IN 9 MONTHS OF PURCHASE. I ALSO PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW AND HAVE MAINTAINED THE REQUIRED SERVICE. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND IT CONTINUES WHEN IN MOTION.
